Practical opportunities with depend on the strength of the group  

 Theoretical content

Topic 3: The body’s response to physical activity.

  • The structure and function of the skeletal system
  • The structure and function of the muscular system
  • The cardiovascular system and respiratory systems

 Topic 5: Sports Nutrition 

  • Know about nutrients needed for a healthy, balanced diet
  • Understand the importance of nutrition in sport
  • Know about the effects of a poor diet on sports performance and participation
  • Be able to develop diet plans for performers

 Assessment will be in the form of GCSE past papers and essay based assignments

 Year 10  

Practical Activities – Fitness. Other practical options will be assessed on the strengths on the group. 

 Theoretical content

Topic 2: Applying principles of training

  • Know the principles of training in a sporting context

Topic 1: Reducing the risk of sports injury 

  • Understand different factors which influence the risk of injury
  • Understand how appropriate warm up and cool down routines can help prevent injury

  • Know how to respond to common medical conditions

 Assessment will be based on witness statements from the class teacher, assignments, presentations and video/photo evidence

 Year 11

Practical Activities – Fitness. Revisit activities taught in year 10 to strengths knowledge and understanding of theory work. 

 Theoretical content
