Behaviour and Rewards

All students are expected to behave in a way which is respectful of other people within the school and the wider community and of the school environment.  

Care, courtesy and consideration are emphasised as part of the School’s ethos. However, if students do not behave sensibly, they will be held to account.  Parents will be contacted and corrective measures used. Students may be required to do extra work, either in a detention at school or at home, or to do something that is useful during lunch or morning breaks. Students whose behaviour or attitude to work during lessons causes concern may be required to have a report card signed by the teacher at the end of each lesson.

Consequences to poor behaviour are communicated clearly to students via the Code of Conduct, in their planners. Consequences to poor behaviour are also clearly displayed in every teaching room. Teachers and students may refer to this during lessons in order that low level disruption may be dealt with effectively and be prevented from escalating.

Procedures have been devised for dealing with any incident where bullying is suspected. Serious offences, such as the possession or use of drugs or alcohol, or violent or aggressive behaviour, will be treated very seriously and will lead to exclusion. 


Damage or theft to the school property or premises

Should instances of deliberate damage or theft occur or accidental damage as a result of irresponsible behaviour, bills for the full cost of replacement or repair will be obtained and forwarded to the parents of those responsible. In more serious cases, it is also likely that students will be faced with some level of suspension.

Whole school rewards

Merits

Students are awarded merit stickers for the demonstration of Growth Mindset Qualities (see below).  A teacher will issue a Merit sticker to be placed in a Student’s Planner on the week page that it was awarded.  This ensures that parents/carers can see and share in a students’ success when they sign the Planner each week.  In addition to the sticker going into the Planner, the teacher will log the event as a positive mark on Go4Schools, meaning we can keep a running total of students’ merits as they progress throughout the year.

We use these merit totals to calculate which award certificates should go to which students at our Celebration Assemblies at the end of each term.

Congratulations postcard

Sent by post, to inform parents/carers that their child/ren has been working with commitment and purpose in a particular subject.


Celebration Assemblies

At the end of each term, we hold a Celebration Assembly during which students’ achievements throughout the term are acknowledged.  Subject-specific, Year group specific and Growth Mindset specific Certificates are awarded, together with an Amazon voucher.


School Colours Award

It is within these Celebration Assemblies that the School Colours Award is awarded.  Students who represent the school for a minimum of three years having demonstrated commitment, honour and distinction may be nominated to receive the prestigious School Colours Award. Students are nominated by members of staff once they have met the criteria for School Colours.  Any pupil being considered for School Colours recognition is expected to demonstrate high standards in the following areas:-
